John Beam was shot on campus just before midday on Thursday.
The famous former head football coach and current athletic director at Laney College in Oakland was shot on campus, local media outlets have confirmed. The incident arose inside the college’s athletic facility, prompting a fast reply from law enforcement and the institution’s administrators.
In the past, Beam had mentioned previously how he coached at the high school and community college levels in the Bay Area for decades and was widely recognized, both on a local and national level.
This was for his mentorship of young athletes and his role in the Netflix documentary series Last Chance U. After hearing the gunfire, campus officials locked down the site, and emergency personnel transported Beam to the hospital. Details about his condition and the shooter’s motive were initially very little. However, authorities treated this event as a major and targeted act.
The college district expressed so much shock and concern, even emphasizing how schools need to be safe for students, staff, as well as community members.
