22-year-old Laken Snelling, who was a former cheerleader at the University of Kentucky, is currently being investigated for a terrible crime.
This had to do with stuffing her newborn baby inside the cupboard at her off-campus residence. As per affidavits by the police, she gave birth inside the university’s bedroom, wrapped the baby inside a towel, and then placed it inside a black trash bag, alongside the placenta. After that, she chose to hide the bag inside the cupboard.
The baby was later discovered by her roommates, who heard noises during the early morning hours and found a blood-stained towel and the baby inside the closet.
The cause of this infant’s death remains undetermined at the moment. The local coroner’s office mentioned how the autopsy was inconclusive and further testing is needed.
Snelling has been charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of the infant. She has so far pleaded not guilty.
A judge then modified the pre-trial release conditions. Instead of splitting time between both parents’ homes, she needs to reside at her father’s home in Tennessee and needs to wear an electronic monitoring device. She also needs to report to the Pretrial Services within a week to initiate monitoring.
