The Trump administration was seen demolishing a major chunk of the east wing of the White House to build Trump’s $250 million ballroom that was comissioned by the President himself.
Pictures shared online showed how the entrance was all covered that was once used to receive guests for tours or events. And now it’s gone. At the same time, windows facing the Treasury Department were completely shattered or hanging off their hinges.
And then there was a giant hole that remains where the calligraphy office once sat. The East Wing was first built in 1942 and traditionally housed the first lady’s offices. It sat right above a bomb shelter.
The project reportedly involved a major part of the southern expansion of the wing to accomodate the latest ballroom, though it’s not clear whether the entire wing would be dismantled in this process.
The White House is yet to share any thoughts on this matter with the public yet as outrage increased online and many slamming the Trump administration for the act.
“He’s erasing history and that’s just sad. President Trump vowed it would not interfere with the present standing structure but he lied to America again”- a person wrote in anger.
