Dozens of ABC affiliate stations will be airing a tribute special for Charlie Kirk in Jimmy Kimmel’s timeslot on Friday.
The news comes from the liberal host’s controversial comments about the conservative activist’s alleged assassin came into play.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operates 30 ABC affiliates, announced on Wednesday that it would be busy airing a special in remembrance of Charles Kirk after Disney decided to pull Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely.
Sinclair had joined Nextstar, another leading owner of ABC affiliates, in pre-empting Kimmel’s late-night program before Disney’s decision. ‘Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were not appropriate and deeply insensitive at a crucial moment for our nation’ – the statement by the Sinclair VC Jason Smith added.
Sinclair, which has come under serious criticism from other leading media outlets for airing right-leaning content, shared that it wouldn’t lift the suspension until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.
They have been slammed by viewers for asking to make a direct donation to the Kirk family, other than a public apology, alongside a donation to Turning Point USA. Hollywood has come out to support Jimmy Kimmel over the decision to suspend his show, as many feel it’s totally unacceptable behavior.
