A good teacher is believed to be one who’s never off duty, even in desperate times.
This example is not only a saying but a real life ordeal for one dedicated mentor who despite being on his death bed, continued to carry out his obligations as a teacher.
Alejandro Navarro is being remembered after his death for his dedication and commitments to education excellence. The Texan was a math professor who adored his job, and surprisingly, during his final moments, was more worried about his own students than facing his death.
In fact, a day before he passed away, he decided to finish his teacher’s duties straight from the hospital bed. Apart from highlighting Navarro’s passion for the profession, his story raised serious queries about the work-life balance.
His daughter, Sandra A. Venegas, shared his story online through a heartfelt post on Facebook, which has now been deleted.
Sandra clicked an image of her dying father finalizing the grades for progress reports while lying in a hospital bed. She shared how her dad knew he would go into the ER, so he packed his laptop, the charger in order to take them along with him. Doctors were coming in and out to see him.
They were said to be busy running tests, and they were even telling him he needed to decide what he wanted in the event that his heart stopped: CPR, Intubation, or to go in peace, she revealed. He would answer their queries and resume with grades, she recalled further.
The last time she laid eyes on her dad, he was on his laptop, spending two hours working. She does wish he closed his laptop and enjoyed spending time with her, Sandra confessed.
