Five people have reportedly passed away, and 24 more were injured after a suspension of a bridge snapped in China earlier this week.
The incident took place in the northwestern region of Xinjiang at a popular tourist location on Wednesday, as per Chinese media outlets.
29 people were said to be on that bridge at 6:18 pm local time on Wednesday when the cables all of a sudden broke in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. The Jiangjun Bridge then ended up tilting to one side, and people soon fell off, as per the Global Times.
While two people were injured very seriously injured, the others were treated for minor injuries, according to the outlet.
In the footage shared online, the large bridge, which partially extends into a river, could be seen slanting to one side with people below.
Other photos showed people standing and lying beneath the bridge. As per one tourist, people fell into the river and onto rocks during the incident, with some people getting stuck on the bridge, as per the Global Times. The matter is being investigated as this location is said to be a popular tourist attraction with hundreds coming for the scenic views.
