The Trump administration is planning to incinerate female contraceptives worth a staggering $13 million.
This is despite efforts made by several aid agencies to distribute supplies without any kind of cost.
The supplies that entail different kinds of birth control were designed for the sole purpose of family planning programs in low-income nations in Africa.
Instead, they were said to be sitting idle inside a warehouse in Belgium for several months, after which Donald Trump’s administration thought of freezing all foreign aid in January.
MSI Reproductive Choices says it made an offer to the Trump administration to take those supplies and distribute them to everyone in need at zero cost to the government.
However, that offer was rebuked. ‘To me, that sends a really clear signal that this is an ideological position,’- the MSI director for advocacy shared.
They also mentioned how they were informed through an intermediary source that the government wishes to sell those products at market value costs, which the charity couldn’t afford to do.
The UN’s s*xual and reproductive health agency offered to purchase these contraceptives outright, as per media outlets. Therefore, seeing the admin’s behavior on this matter has left many women’s rights activists upset.
