Terrifying footage from the year’s first megafire was shared that shows the terrifying reality that first responders are facing while they continue to battle the raging inferno.
The Dragon Bravo Fire in Arizona sparked a massive lightning strike that has been burning for nearly one month now and continues to pose a serious threat to the Grand Canyon.
So far, it has completely destroyed the Grand Canyon Lodge which is a known iconic tourist location on the North Rim. It’s known to be a famous historic place which first opened up in the year 1928.
Shocking pictures showed the classic lodge go up in flames with officials from the national park stating that they were horrified and devastated by the loss.
Other leading structures were destroyed including the giant North Rim visitor center and several other cabins. The blaze officially attained the megafire status on Friday, as confirmed by officials.
The news comes as it is now more than 105,000 acres in size, which makes it the biggest wildfire in the continental US so far this year. After burning through nearly 100 structures, it’s the largest fire to hit the Grand Canyon National Park since 1984 and is the 10th biggest wildfire in the state since 1990.
