Spain has been rattled by an earthquake this morning that was felt in more than hundreds of towns across the country.
Many residents were said to be startled as they were sleeping at the time. Tourists saw the impact of the aftershocks where parts of the ceilings of an airport came crashing down, as well as the ceiling inside a car showroom.
The strong quake was recorded by the country’s National Geographic Institute at 7:13 am.
It struck at a depth of nearly two miles below sea level, which was off the coast of Almeria in the country’s southeastern part.
The quake shook hundreds of towns and villages across Andalusia and the Levante, with the strongest impact reported in about 17 different municipalities in Almeria.
Granada, Jaen, and Malaga were said to be amongst those that were hit the hardest, as reported by a Spanish newspaper dubbed El País. In the Almeria Airport, parts of the ceiling of the cafe inside the departure lounge collapsed, with the tiles that came tumbling down.
One of the workers explained to the outlets how they heard some noises one after the other, and then all of a sudden, a huge bang arose and a great cloud of dust appeared.
It was said to be a massive scare for many people, and others were some airport workers who were shaken as they were just enjoying the first coffee of the morning before getting back to a gruesome day of work. Thankfully, no one was injured in the aftermath of the incident.
