A newborn child passed away after the mother was left to give birth alone by midwives and doctors, as shared by a recent inquest.
Liliwen Iris Thomas was born at the University of Wales Hospital, but passed away a few moments later.
It was shared that the mother of the newborn was admitted for an induced labor at 40 weeks. She was given some painkillers to relieve her pain, but was not attended to or subjected to physical checks regularly enough.
Nobody checked on her from the midwifery team for nearly one hour during the early hours, during which she cried for help. The fact that she had moved to a stage of active labor ended up getting missed.
Staff came to find that Liliwen had been delivered unattended. The newborn was said to be in a very poor condition and passed away later that same day.
The heartbroken mom mentioned how furious she had become because she was all alone during the childbirth. She remembered there was a cycle of puffing gas and air, passing out, and then repeating.
She also shared how many special family moments are tinged with sadness, and this might be one of those. ‘I dread family events and Christmas, knowing that my little child would never be there with us. She will always remain the missing piece’- she continued.
