A Delta flight experienced a nightmare episode when an engine failure forced it to divert from its regular routine and make an emergency landing.
The trans-Atlantic flight ended up at a remote volcanic island in the middle of the ocean, leading to more than a 31-hour delay, as per officials on Thursday.
Flight 127 left Madrid on Sunday and was bound for New York when it had no choice but to divert towards Lajes, Azores.
This was after the pilot received an indication of a mechanical issue with the plane’s engine, as per the airlines.
The Airbus A330 had a total of 282 customers on board and 13 crew members, as mentioned by Delta.
The passengers and crew deplaned through stairs at TER and were reported to be accommodated overnight in nearby hotels and provided with fresh meals, the airline confirmed.
While the flight did land safely on the island of Portugal’s Azores, sources shared how it has been over 29 hours and still no sign of another flight being booked for the safe return of the passengers.
After news was shared online and massive criticism too over social media with raging passengers, Delta was forced to immediately arrange another flight back to New York, nearly 31 hours later.
