Tragic reports are speaking about nine people getting killed after a bridge over a river collapsed in the Indian state of Gujarat.
According to reports from the country’s health minister, several vehicles happened to be on the bridge when it came crashing down.
Horrified witnesses shared how it was a busy linkway that had dozens of cars, buses, and trucks pass through it every hour.
They revealed how the road linking the passway came crumbling down into the river, with many people falling with it.
While five people were reportedly rescued, more than 9 people have been killed, and sources shared how the death toll is feared to rise.
The news comes as the district faces intense heavy rains over the past few days. The bridge was said to be a whopping 3000 feet long and was made in 1985.
Video footage revealed a massive lorry precariously sitting on the broken part of the bridge as onlookers watched in horror.
Another video showed one man in the water below trying to navigate the wreckage of the bridge. He was reportedly shouting up at the people on the bridge as he was surrounded by so many overturned vehicles and rubble.
Some shared how the bridge was not only a traffic hazard but was also famous as being a notorious point for taking lives, as people carried out self-injury on it.
Another local shared how so many warnings regarding the bridge’s condition continued to be ignored despite alarms being raised over its poor condition.
