A 42-year-old woman has thrown herself a wedding even though she doesn’t have the right person to tie the knot with.
Sarah Wilkinson from Suffolk, UK, has finally had her dream fulfilled after spending her entire savings.
“I decided to treat myself to an engagement ring, and it was only natural to follow that up with a wedding ceremony,” Sarah said.
She continued: “While it wasn’t an official wedding, it was undoubtedly my wedding day. You reach a point where you think, ‘I might not have a partner by my side for this, but why should I miss out?’”
Sarah said she had saved for her dream wedding for 20 years, saving a chunk of her monthly income for the huge celebration.
The ceremony was attended by 40 of her family and closest friends and another 40 at a tennis club.
Speaking about her decision to throw a wedding for herself, Sarah said her pals were not surprised when she sent them invitations.
“No one stopped smiling all day, and everyone said what an amazing time they had,” Sarah said.
“Nearly every single one said, ‘That’s such a Sarah thing to do.’”
The event featured classic elements, including a tiered wedding cake decorated with a figurine of a bride kissing a frog, a white sequined gown, and Sara’s mom walking her down the aisle.
Her close friend and professional wedding planner Katherine Cresswell conducted the ceremony.
“As much as it was about Sarah, it was about bringing everyone together. There’s always a need to celebrate, and I think we need it more than ever right now.”
Sarah said she has not given up the possibility of finding the right man for her. “Not at all… but it was just a case of giving up looking because it’s a lot of effort.”
