A 9/11 memorial located in Yardley, Pennsylvania, was vandalized by “disturbed individuals” who filled the fountain with dish detergent.
The incident took place in the Garden of Reflection where a memorial fountain dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks was left doused in soap and bubbles after an unidentified culprit(s) poured in large amounts of dish detergent.
“It appears someone dumped a few gallons of dish detergent into the fountain. That created a bubble mass the whole entire width of the fountain itself and about five feet high,” Lower Makefield Police Department’s Lt. Jason Braim confirmed.
As the police lieutenant added, “this location should not be disturbed” whereas the act represents “a total lack of respect for what this fountain stands for as a monument.”
According to the reports, the same memorial, which is dedicated to 8 Bucks County residents who died in the attacks that cost thousands of people their lives, was vandalized six years ago in a similar stunt involving detergent.
Speaking of the appalling act of vandalism that took place just days before the 19th anniversary of the attacks, Judi Reiss, a mother of one of the victims, said she hoped people responsible for this were just a “bunch of dumb young teenagers” who require “more education.”
“My hope is that it was a bunch of dumb young teenagers. I think that it makes a case that we need to get more education out to the public on what the Garden is,” Judi, who lost her son to the attacks, expressed.
Speaking of her son, she added: “He had a lot of promise, he was a lot of fun, he was smart, he was charming. It’s left a hole in our lives even 19 years later.”
While the mother admitted the stunt was “a little disheartening,” she insisted that it won’t stop the people from paying their respects to the victims on September 11 when “the garden will be at its most beautiful.”
