300-Year-Old Baby Tells A Long Story From Beyond The Grave

Little Things

Most ghost stories are urban legends based very loosely on a version of events that happened years ago, passed down each generation.

Most, we realize as we grow older, are not true.

This story; however, will give you chills. This story is very real.

In 1994, archaeologists discovered something incredible and haunting beneath a church in Hungary. They found the bodies of more than 250 people who died about 300 years ago.

Their bodies were mummified and perfectly preserved. And now, more than 20 years later, scientists are still trying to figure out what happened.

Two bodies in particular have been of interest to scientists—those of 38-year-old Veronica Skripetz and her one-year-old son Yohan.

Scientists believe that the two died of tuberculosis, a common infectious disease at the time.

But now they have more advanced technology to take a closer look and learn more about how the people entombed below the church lived and died.

How did they spend their time? Why did so many of them die? Why were they buried underneath the church?

Because their bodies are so perfectly preserved, doctors are able to perform autopsies.

The autopsies are not the kind you usually hear about where doctors cut open a body to find the cause of death. Doctors at Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, California are performing virtual autopsies where they can examine the mummies visually.

They hope that these autopsies will reveal more about the people found entombed. When these people lived, they did not have access to antibiotics or modern medical care. Scientists could discover a lot about life and death for the people who lived during this time.

The results of the autopsies will be shared at a “Mummies of the World” exhibit at Bowers Museum.

Scientists and doctors have many questions and the answers are likely to be both telling and creepy. After all, they are mummies that were discovered hundreds of years later!
