A 51-year-old woman, with the surname Zeng, living near central China almost died when she tried to follow an age-old folk remedy to improve her health.

She injected the juice of 20 different fruits into her directly from the syringe. According to the Chinese media, Zeng thought this way her body would better absorb the nutrients from the fruit.

However, very quickly after she tried this method, she developed a fever and irritable skin.

She was not admitted to the hospital on the first day. She was ignoring these symptoms. Only after her husband found how serious her condition was on 22nd February, he forcefully called the medical authorities and admitted her to a hospital nearby, in Chenzhou in the Hunan province.

The hospital staffs were unable to deal with the symptoms and transferred her in the ICU in the Affiliated Hospital of Xiangnan University.

Dr Liu Jianxiu, who was the attending doctor, told the reporters that Zeng had majorly damaged her kidney, heart, and liver and was suffering from a serious infection and that her body was at the risk of collapsing from sepsis and failure of multiple organs.

Nevertheless, the doctors cleaned her blood using antibiotics, injecting clotting agents and dialysis. It took Zeng five days to recover, and she was then moved to get a kidney check-up on the 27th of February.

On the morning of the incident, Zeng called one doctor home and asked to administer an IV at home. She pretended that she was sick and when she was alone, she changed the liquid in the IV with the fruit juice she blended.

Zeng, who had lately developed a keen interest in the unconventional treatments and home medicines, stated that she thought fresh fruits would not be harmful to her body since they are so nutritious when orally consumed.

After this incident, Dr. Liu took to the public and asked them not to go by any such health practices which are not scientifically sound and added that such practices would not only damage the kidney and liver but can also be the cause of death.
