Dylan and Zack Pezzuto are two young boys from Berth who are now able to speak both Italian and English in a fluent manner.
The doctors said that the reason behind their incapability of listening might have arisen because of infection while they were in their mother’s womb. The parents had always worried about the two, but their cochlear implants turned their lives around.
Deborah, the mother of two, said that the moment when the implants were attached, the boys’ eyes honestly came alive and it was clear that they were able to hear every sound that was present inside that room.
The mother Deborah Pezzuto, 51 and the father Alessandro, 47 used to live in New York before their children were born. They shifted to the UK post the birth of the twins.
Alessandro is an executive coach and is a businessman; the two parents were left in despair when they heard that both their newborns weren’t able to pass the newborn hearing test. The doctors at the time assured them that there might be a chance of liquid being present in their ears.
The doctors tried testing again, but the results were still negative. For the last time, they asked the couple to bring their newborns ten days later for an ABR test.
The Auditory Brainstem Reaction Test concluded that the two newborns were wholly deaf and surgery was required after six months or else they won’t be having been able to speak normally.
Mrs. Pezzuto is currently in the process of writing a book based on what her family has gone through since all these years.
The mother thought that it is going to very difficult for her two kids, but at the time she wasn’t aware of the cochlear implants. When the doctors informed the married couple that post the operation their babies would be able to listen properly, they didn’t believe them.
They came to terms when the doctor showed them a clip of a 6-year-old girl who was able to listen after getting her implants.
The auditory-verbal therapy helped out the parents a lot to formulate the kid’s speech and language. The two are now even learning French and are able to can cope up with all other kids their age.
