A tropical island filled with cute puppies is heaven. Turks & Caicos Island is a home to Potcake Place, a dog rescue charity. There are a ton of rescued puppies ready to be walked, played with, and adopted.
Potcake dogs are commonly found on Providenciales, The Bahamas, and other Caribbean islands. They got their name from the food left at the bottom of the pot, which would be fed to local pooches.
Potcake Place has an endless supply of cute little dogs that tourists can play with. And yes, you can also adopt them.
If you are not yet ready to take a dog home, you can simply stop by Potcake Place and play with puppies. It is good socialization for them and it will be enjoyable for everyone.
Adopting a Potcake is free, but donations are encouraged because the place is entirely volunteer-run. Charity Potcake Place has been rescuing dogs since 2005 as they have no shelter and face numerous problems like starvation.
Potcakes are a mix of English Fox Terriers, Labrador Retriever, and German Shepherd. They grow to 45 to 50 pounds. There are 50 to 70 rescues under Potcake Place’s care and about 500 dogs are adopted every year.
According to their website, “You have to be 25 or over to adopt, and all household members must be aware this is a 10-15 year commitment and can’t be taken lightly.”
Those who want to adopt must also complete the application form provided by their website. They added: “All potcakes come with all their medical information, a record card of all of their shots and information, and a Vet’s health certificate.”
You will also get some supplies and they will help arrange necessary paperwork with the airline.
