A Minnesota State University-Mankato psychology professor, Eric Sprankle, unleashed a widespread controversy after taking his concerns to Twitter and accusing God of being a sexual predator who abused his biblical power to impregnate a “human teen,” the Virgin Mary.
According to the professor, the mother of Jesus Christ didn’t give her consent and was impregnated forcefully.
With Christmas at our doorstep, the clinical psychology associate professor decided to address this matter on Twitter where he criticized the biblical story and accused the God of being “predatory.”
“The virgin birth story is about an all-knowing, all-powerful deity impregnating a human teen. There is no definition of consent that would include that scenario. Happy Holidays,” Sprankle wrote on Twitter.
After a backlash of angry believers, the professor continued to stand behind his words and added:
“The biblical god regularly punished disobedience. The power difference (deity vs mortal) and the potential for violence for saying ‘no’ negates her ‘yes.’
“To put someone in this position is an unethical abuse of power at best and grossly predatory at worst.”
Sprankle, who appears to be a Satanist due to the nature of content that he shares on Twitter and the phrase ‘Hail Satan’ written in his bio, also shared pictures of his Satanic Christmas decorations.
Previously, the professor was also seen complaining about the low number of Satanic student groups and a high number of Christian groups on the university’s campus.
After his controversial Twitter post went viral, people flooded Sprankle with skeptical reactions.
“Eric, the entire story involves Mary’s consent, and would not have happened without it. The amazing part of the story is God’s request for her consent (it was required!). Part of the reason Mary is venerated is that her willing ‘yes’ to God’s request results in our salvation,” one person commented.
“Does it make more logical sense to believe what you’re saying or to believe that the infinite and all-knowing God of the universe intentionally chose someone who he knew would consider it a blessing and be happy to agree?” another one pondered.
“So courageous. Now do Mohammed,” one person suggested.
