An angry vegan family has divided the internet after their passive-aggressive letter to neighbors went viral.

The letter was shared on an Aussie social media page after one vegan family asked their neighbors to close their windows when cooking meat because the smell was making them “sick and upset.”

“Please take seriously,” the letter labeled as “important” read.

“Hello, Neighbour. Could you please shut your side window when cooking, please?

“My family are vegan (we eat only plant-based food), and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset. We would appreciate your understanding.”

While it is not clear how the recipients of the letter responded to this request, the letter quickly sparked fury on the internet where thousands of people condemned the vegan family for “forcing” their beliefs onto their community.

“What does she do when she takes the kids to the park, and people are cooking BBQs? Ask them to stop cooking. Audacity,” someone wrote.

“No one has the right to push views on the other or expect to be able to control what they do. If she doesn’t like it close her own window. Simple,” another said.

A third insisted: “No one has the right to tell you how to live in your own home!”

While the vegan request received plenty of backlash, some people ran to its defense saying it was a reasonable request rather than an impossible demand.

“I feel like this was a genuinely polite letter, and it’s true the smell of meat is overpowering,” someone admitted.

“It would be nice to see some respect for your neighbors, and not publicly trying to shame them for holding strong ethical morals.”

Another said: “I understand where they’re coming from. I eat meat but even to me it sometimes smells really bad when cooking.”
