A Major League Baseball star has taken to social media to slam United Airlines after a flight attendant made his pregnant wife get on her ‘hands and knees’ to clean up her two-year-old daughter’s mess.
Anthony Bass, a pitcher for the Blue Jays in the MLB, took to Twitter and expressed his frustration over the way his pregnant wife was treated during her flight.
“The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter,” he wrote.
“Are you kidding me?!?!”
It is understandable that children make a mess anywhere, so the incident sparked a lengthy debate on social media about whose responsibility it is to clean up the mess the toddler made.
One person commented: “Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made? As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them.”
Bass replied to the question and said: “The cleaning crew they hire!”
Many were not sympathetic towards the MLB player, with one person commenting: “Won’t lie, the fact that the flight attendant had the guts to make the passenger clean up their own MESS kinda makes me wanna fly United more.”
Another said: “The flight attendant was making sure the next passengers had a tidy seating area for their flight, but Karen thinks they should get down on their hands and knees to clean up after everyone’s kids or get fired.”
A third added: “A flight attendant is there for safety, not to pick up after you or your children. As a former flight attendant, I speak from experience.”
United Airline released a statement and said they will look into the incident.

Ok so as a mom of 4(one being special needs) I always try to clean up after my kids. HOWEVER what this flight attendant did was so wrong she was pregnant and humiliated. Help her by getting a broom and dust pan or something. And where was the other passengers did they not see this or did they watch this humiliation and not do anything. Again I do try to clean up even at sit down restaurants but the way this flight attendant went about it was wrong.
We don’t carry brooms on an airplane. Also now the FA HAVE TO CLEAN! We do not get paid after everyone deplanes so I’m sorry yes she should clean it. At 20 or 22 weeks she can still bend to
Clean or make sure the kid is not throwing the food on the floor. Entitlement! Lol
I feel like it should have been up to the mother but it would have been nice for the flight attendant have some niceness & do it. What would have hurt her to try to understand that that person might need a break & can’t get one & just be nice once in a while & not expect anything in return because she might need a break or something nice done for her because of what she might be going thru especially if she wasn’t suppose to do it. I need a break sometimes & sure am glad for those that do things for me when I’m not expecting it and just down right need something nice. I work with the public too and know that there are more that think that they should be waited on when they want it and how they want it but it doesn’t work that way. I cook for grocery store in South Carolina and a lot of the customers don’t understand that I have to cook the food and wait on them but what they don’t understand is that they do have to wait sometimes especially if I’ve already started working on it and have to do it when I get a chance. Sure there are some that are very unappreciative and I do get in trouble because they think I should stop what I’m doing to wait on them. Maybe if more of them would go back to cooking for themselves or come back & help me that they would understand better. But then I do have a good crowd. I’m out on disability right now and now that when I get back that if I get to back to cooking like I’m suppose to instead of being thrown on other side of deli to cut meat/cheese when there’s 1 that needs to learn to do this because he wasn’t trained when he was hired when I was out last summer & is the worst cook there is & doesn’t think he should have to work nites but expect me to work all nites when I the one that should be working all mornings since I have the seniority but don’t want to because it’s actually better to work nights except when 1 particular manager they need to get rid of works because he’s an rude, nasty and unbearable mmmmmm to work with and for & keeps getting away with it.
But like Bass said, they have a cleaning crew on after every flight, and any decent person would of helped the pregnant lady
It sounds like @AmericanAirlines is in need of cleaning service. Please reach out to us @wtwcleaningservices.com We don’t mind cleaning up after children.
Those seats are tight already. I’m sure this pregnant mom, didn’t have much wiggle room to bend down and clean the mess. I think there are always exceptions to everything. I’m sure under the right circumstances this mom would have cleaned her child’s mess. If an opportunity like this arises again, just be caring and show some grace.
It’s not easy flying with children. As a mother and grandmother I have traveled with children. And the flight attendant is there for service and comfort of the passengers. Safety is not the only job of the attendant! When she checks the seats with a garbage bag, after serving, she could have easily helped! It must have been the same attendant who screamed at my elderly, diabetic husband to get back in his seat when he had waited after a long line of people to use the restroom. He had difficulty holding his urine and she literally screamed at him and threatened him with security after he came out of the restroom! She was way out of line!!
Yes get the mother to clean it but not in hands and knees. Help her out. Get a vacuum, broom/dust pan. Shit happens. The flight attendants get paid good money in most airlines. making a pregnant woman go to that length that’s very low. Attendant should be repremanded and have to take a course or something on how to deal people and crap like this
It’s called customer service. Yes I try to clean up after my kids. But if anyone, pregnant or not, came in to my employment and made a mess I would cleaning up as curtesy and as my job to deliver customer service.
