But one mom has revealed how her grandmother refused to see her newborn just because of the name they picked for her.

Posting on Reddit, the 27-year-old mother explained that she and her husband just welcomed their first child and she was excited for her family to meet her.

She also explained that her family has a ‘fun tradition’ to host a gathering once the baby is at least two months old, where the newborn is given gifts with their name on it.

“My grandmother always quilts a beautiful baby blanket and embroiders the baby’s name. She’s done this for all my sisters and cousins. The issue is the name my husband and I chose for our daughter,” she wrote.

The mom then revealed that her grandmother had problems with her own name when she was younger. She was previously known as Lucille but decided to legally change it to Barbara.

“She simply said she liked Barbara better. It became a family joke, but she never seemed upset about it and always laughed with us.”

The woman then said that her husband’s grandmother had been the one to raise him and he wanted to ‘honor her in some way.’

His grandmother’s favorite celebrity was Lucille Ball, and because the two of them watched the show I Love Lucy all the time, the couple have decided to name their baby ‘Lucy.’

“Her name was Mary but we chose to have that as our daughters middle name. We decided that Lucy is a name we both loved and would honor his grandmother and maybe make mine chuckle a bit,” she continued.

When they proudly announced the name of their baby during a FaceTime call, everyone ‘laughed and said it was cute’ but the woman’s grandmother was ‘dead silent.’

Her grandmother demanded to know why they chose Lucy and when she tried to explain, the grandma ended the call.

“My grandma wouldn’t answer any calls from me afterwards. I asked my oldest sister and she said that my grandma was apparently offended and thought we were mocking her.”

The woman then said that her grandmother refused to meet her baby and won’t give her quilt unless they apologized and changed their child’s name.

“My grandma has always been kind. I have no idea what to do,” she added.

Reddit users were quick to side with the mom, with one person commenting: “I think Grandma is hiding trauma so while her behavior isn’t okay, I’m reluctant to label her an A. You’re definitely not in the wrong.”

Another said: “My own grandmother did not speak to my mother for 6 months over my name. Sorry to hear of this situation for you. I can only say time will heal it in the long run.”
