Bride Sparks Fury After Banning Boy With Autism From Her Wedding

A bride has sparked fury and backlash after banning a boy with autism from her wedding.

According to the bride who sought advice on the internet, she had a fallout with one of her bridesmaids after she told her that she couldn’t accommodate her son with autism at her wedding.

“I feel like an awful person for saying this, but I don’t want my bridesmaid’s autistic son to come to my wedding because I’m panicking that he’s going to ruin what is meant to be my special, once-in-a-lifetime day,” the bride wrote.

“I am getting married this summer and have been working so hard to ensure that the day is absolutely perfect. My fiancé and I decided pretty early on that we didn’t want kids at our wedding, but we’ve made a few concessions for close family members whose children are going to be a part of the ceremony.”

The woman, however, is not willing to make adjustments for her bridesmaid’s son – a decision that angers the mother and threatens her friendship with the woman.

“Now my close friend is insisting that because she can’t find anyone to look after him and he hates it when she leaves him with other people,” the bride added.

“I understand that it’s really difficult for her, but I also know that her son tends to cause such a scene whenever he’s at big events. Because of his condition he gets overwhelmed, he screams, he acts out and I just don’t want that during my wedding!”

Refusing to budge under pressure from her bridesmaid, who has since stepped down from her role in the wedding, the bride insisted she gave her friend enough time to find someone to look after her son when the ceremony takes place.

She also said she doesn’t believe this should be her problem as she’s already busy enough with planning her big day.

“I told her in the nicest way possible that we just can’t accommodate him and she’s now threatening not to come to the wedding at all. She says I’m being selfish – but surely she’s the selfish one here?” the bride concluded.

After asking for advice, the bride was inundated with mixed responses. While some people suggested she was in the wrong for “not understanding” her friend and accommodating her son, others said she was right to “protect” her big day from potential complications.

“As a long time parent of a child (adult now) with autism, I absolutely agree with the bride to be. Not only do some children on the spectrum have disruptive behaviors, they can escalate quickly and the whole world suddenly becomes involved,” one mother wrote.

“I think the bridesmaid is being very selfish and lacks empathy regarding her friend’s wedding and wanting her son to attend. Surely the bridesmaid has family members who can watch the boy, or hire a professional to care for him,” another viewer said.

A third suggested: “It’s not good for the autistic son to be in such an overwhelming situation. For everyone’s sake, find good care for the son and go enjoy your friend’s wedding.”
