According to the reports, the passenger in question didn’t come forth and didn’t clean up their mess or ask for help in cleaning the spilled rice.

Seemingly infuriated by the mess, the flight attendants then refused to let the plane leave the gate and take off before the rice was cleaned.

“The flight attendant screamed ‘Who spilled rice?’ and is walking up and down the aisles. They are refusing to leave the gate until someone cleans the rice,” one of the passengers, Jennifer Schaper, revealed in her Twitter post.

In an update, Schaper added: “They are still refusing to leave until the rice has been cleaned. They are sending out for a broom.”

While the passengers waited for the mess to be cleaned, the Southwest staff addressed the issue via the speaker and said:

“We’re cleaning this rice so you don’t have to walk through it and it won’t be an eyesore. We apologize, but, again, I don’t think you want to walk through it, so let us just take care of it before we leave.”

After the broom the staff had requested finally arrived, one of the flight attendants began cleaning up the rice. As Schaper explained, however, she wasn’t all too thrilled about the extra work and delay.

“Rice is getting cleaned but she is MAD. She has let us all know that we were not raised right and she is disappointed in all of us,” she said.

After the plane finally landed in Houston, she added: “There were a few bumps so they didn’t give us beverage service. I think it was punishment.”
