New York Tops The List Of The World’s Best Cities Followed By Melbourne, Chicago, and London

New York City has come out on top of a list of the world’s best cities, edging out the likes of Melbourne, London, and Chicago who also placed highly.

Based on a study by Time Out, the Big Apple’s impressive collection of restaurants and bars, culture and fun entertainment helped it secure the top spot.

Every year, it releases the City Life Index which ranks places based on categories like food, drink, culture, affordability, friendliness, and happiness.

New York scored high marks because of its diversity as well as its live music scene and nightlife. This means that it is one of the cities most people around the world want to visit in 2019, second only to Tokyo.

At second place, Melbourne got high marks for happiness, creativity, eating, and live music.

While Chicago is at number three, it still comes first for eating, drinking, fun, and happiness. Actually, it is the happiest city in the world with 85 percent of residents indicating that they have felt content in the past 24 hours.

In London, the unpredictability of Brexit doesn’t seem to be affecting travelers as it ranks high in culture, food, and live music. It is also only behind Tokyo and New York most want to visit this year.

Rounding out the top five is Los Angeles. Out of all residents of US cities, Angelenos are the ones most likely to dine out. Their exciting food scene has actually caught the attention of the rest of the world.

But event outside of the top five, a lot of the cities in the Time Out Index still have something going for them.

For instance, the study indicates that Bangkok is on top of the heap when it comes to street food. People there consume more street food, go to more food markets, and do take outs than anyone else at three times a week on average.

And if bar-hopping is your thing, Madrid is the place to be as it leads the world when it comes to going to bars (44 times a year) and clubs (19 times) and drinking beer.

Despite Parisians claiming that their city is the least friendly, the study discovered that Paris is actually the most sociable place in the world.

Parisians were also found to have more sex on average compared to the rest of the world: 33 times a year.

As expected, Las Vegas ranks number one in the world for its amazing nightlife but it is also the third most expensive city in the world for a night out.

Berliners lead the pack when it comes to curbing excess as eight percent are vegan while 29 percent are reducing meat consumption. They also have a lot of drinkers cutting down on alcohol (one in four).

For all that they are located in the Holy Land, Tel Aviv residents are actually quite risqué. They take the most drugs, are most likely to cheat on their partners, and have the most one-night stands.

And it’s easy to see why Mumbai is the home of Bollywood as its residents go out to see films and dramas more than anyone else (31 movies and 24 shows and plays a year).

Hong Kong residents, on the other hand, eat out at restaurants more frequently than anyone else. But Singaporeans are most likely to queue for their favorite restaurant.

Housing the highest percentage of drinkers in the world, people in Manchester also suffer from more hangovers, averaging 25 days a year. But its the people in Edinburgh who spend the fewest working hours a week at 35.3 hours.

Glasgow ranks first for friendliness and affordability while Porto, home of fortified wine, has the most wine drinkers in the world.
