In Minnesota, an employee of an assisted living facility had been charged with sexually assaulting an Alzheimer’s patient, 83.
The attack had been recorded on webcams that the victim’s son had set up in order to keep an eye on her well-being.
Olabamidele Bewaji, 52, had raped the victim in The Pillars of Mankato in Mankato. What he was unaware of is that her room was set up with webcams by her son, and the scene of the crime took place in her bedroom.
According to the document of Minnesota’s State Court District, he was charged with more than one felony: for having sexual contact with a “mentally impaired, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless” individual.
The victim’s son states the police that he had received an alert the evening of the assault, watching through one of the cameras that had been streaming in order to ensure that she is well. After receiving the alert, he ran the tapes over and found Bewaji undressing his mother while proceeding to sexually assault her.
In the midst of the assault, the victim son’s begged him to stop and it had ceased since he “spoke to Bewaji through the speaker function of the CCTV.” It was not an immediate stop, but cops say, Bewaji “slowly stopped assaulting Victim 1 and left the apartment,”.
The son continued to review the tapes, the webcams he set up are capable of forwarding alerts to the user when it picks up motion, sound, and faces that are unfamiliar.
The cops questioned Bewaji and had confessed to the assault, he already knew that the woman was a “vulnerable adult.” Adding onto his confession, he came clean and admitted to raping the woman last month.
Although he had confessed directly, Bewaji claimed that the victim “initiated the sexual assault.” Albeit what it says on the Minnesota State Court District’s paper, the police looked into it more and counterattacked with the description of the victim: she had no pajamas or underwear and was confused, unable to even recall if she had been assaulted beforehand.
