California Man Will Receive $21 Million As He Was Wrongly Sentenced and Spent 40 Years In Prison


Even the thought of spending a night inside a walled cage of prison freaks us out and especially when the same happens when you are innocent.

Although it does not happen generally but hey, there is always an exception. Being caged inside a packed room of bars is the most difficult thing to do because no one in the world would like to be captured.

A man from California spent 40 years inside prison as the man was wrongly charged with 2 murders. Craig Coley spent 40 years of his life inside the prison when he was wrongly convicted for killing his girlfriend and her 4 years old son.

The man was sentenced to prison back in 1978 and was finally given freedom in 2017. Because of the wrong charge, he was sentenced and now the court has ordered the law to pay him $21 million as compensation.

Coley was 71 years old when Gov. Jerry Brown released him from the prison. he said that DNA traces that were found at the cite of murder were rechecked and it was found out that it was not of Coley.

Forensic reports said that the DNA traces found on the bedsheet of Rhonda Wicht, the victim, was not of Coley and that it was of some other man. The attorney later disapproved the testimony of the eye witness who had told that he saw Coley at the cite.

Jerry Brown said “We understand that no amount of money can bring back what Celoy has lost over a time span of 40 years. He has spent all his youth behind bars and was wrongly convicted for the murder of his girlfriend at the time of his grief.

But settling this case is the right thing to do for Mr. Coley.” The city will now pay him $4.9 million and the rest of the amount will be paid by the insurance company.
