Lori Loughlin Released On $1 Million Bail Following Arrest In College Cheating Scam


US actress Lori Loughlin has been released after posting $1 million bail over a college cheating scam.

The 54-year-old actress appeared in court on Wednesday and was granted permission to travel to British Columbia for a film project. She will have to surrender her passport in November when her projects are expected to wrap.

Ms. Loughlin and fellow actress Felicity Huffman are among 50 people charged in an alleged criminal enterprise to get their children into top colleges in United States.

Authorities say Ms. Loughlin and her husband, designer Mossimo Giannulli, paid $500,000 in bribes to have their two daughters admitted into the University of Southern California as fake rowing-team recruits.

Loughlin and Giannulli are accused of agreeing to pay $500,000 in bribes to have their two daughters designated as recruits for the University of Southern California crew team despite that fact that neither child participated in the sport.

Their daughter Olivia Jade who is a famous YouTuber attends University of Southern California.

A representative for Loughlin told Fox News she had “no information regarding her client.” The actress’ attorney did not respond to our multiple requests for comment.

Ms. Loughlin has been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

Loughlin did not appear in court on Tuesday because she was filming a movie in Vancouver at the time of Giannulli’s arrest. According to multiple reports, the actress landed at LAX on Tuesday during her husband’s court hearing.

On Tuesday, Federal law enforcement officials went to Loughlin’s home in Los Angeles and found out she was out of the country, according to TMZ. She faces charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, according to a criminal complaint.

Loughlin, Giannulli and Huffman will appear in federal court on March 29 for a preliminary hearing.
