For the royal family, comedy and light-heartedness are often frowned upon.

Being royal, the members are expected to be proper and well-disciplined at all times, never once showing emotion or exclamation. You’d expect most of them to be killjoys, and their company at parties wouldn’t be the best. However, recently we got to see the more humane and enthusiastic side of the royal family.

Recently, on the Royal Variety Performance 2017, we got to see Prince William in a hysterical moment. The incident had audiences laughing their heads off, and the Prince’s wife, Kate, couldn’t hold herself either. This ridiculous moment had never been anticipated at such a formal event, but it definitely was endorsed.

During the talent show, one of the performers, who was a talented little girl, made a special request to the Prince that shook the entire theatre. Prince William was sitting next to his wife Kate Middleton, looking down upon the stage from a private balcony. His dressing was no doubt quite formal and professional, and his mannerisms were the same. But the little girl’s request made the day.

The tiny little dancer, who was so enthusiastic and excited, asked Prince William to gallop like a horse. Of course, this had the entire theatre in tears of laughter, and the Duchess couldn’t hide her delightfulness either. But the Prince’s response was what made headlines that day.

Turns out, the Prince isn’t that big of a killjoy after all. The minuscule performer was too cute to deny, so the Prince did what seemed most appropriate. He pulled out his arms in front of him and demonstrated his best galloping moves. The theatre roared with laughter, as did his wife. The girls were so delighted that they imitated his galloping and galloped off from the stage.

The moment was hysterical, and perhaps no one laughed more than the Duchess. Apparently, the show’s host, Miranda Hart, had discussed horses and their galloping previously on the show, which was likely what incited the girl to make such an unorthodox request.

This just goes to prove that even the most serious and well-dressed people can be soft at heart. If this year’s Royal Variety Performance started out with such an iconic moment, who knows what the rest of it has in store for us? But whatever it is, it’ll sure be a blast!
