A high school senior from Arkansas has bought his disabled friend an electric wheelchair after saving for two years.
When Tanner Wilson, of Caddo Hills High School in Norman, noticed that his friend Brandon Qualls struggled to move around in his manual wheelchair, he decided to help him.
‘My arms would get really tired and I would have to stop and take rests,’ Qualls told KTHV.
Wilson began saving cash so that he can buy his friend new wheels to make his life easier. However, it wasn’t an easy task.
The kind-hearted teen had to work on a part-time job for 2 years before he finally earned enough money to purchase the thoughtful gift for Qualls.
‘He’s just been a really good friend and I wanted to do him a favor,’ Wilson said. ‘I just felt like I needed to do it and I wanted to do it.’
Wilson revealed that he planned the gift three years ago. He told KARK: ‘For the past three years I’ve wanted to get him one and I mean, I’ve been trying.’
When Wilson presented his gift to Qualls during class on Tuesday, both the teens were overwhelmed with emotions.
‘They came in and my face just blew up…crying everywhere,’ Qualls said. ‘[I was] just like “Wow, can’t believe he did that for me!”‘
After Qualls received the amazing gift from his friend, one of their teachers offered their services to customize the wheelchair in orange, Qualls’ favorite color.
‘When he came by I said “Brandon, you got to have some flames on there because you’re going to be buzzing down these halls in no time!”‘ teacher Ginger Wray said.
‘So I went home and made him some flames.’
Wilson told KARK how the look on Quall’s face was worth more than his 2 years of effort.
‘There’s many people out here that have troubles and need a little bit of help,’ he said. ‘Sometimes they can’t do it for themselves.’
According to the teachers at Caddo Hills High, Wilson’s heartfelt gesture is just a typical demonstration of the teen’s kindness.
‘He loves to do for others. He loves to take up for others,’ teacher Kathy Baker said. ‘He is just a great young man.’
