A teenage boy tragically passed away shortly after donating his life savings to a sick 6-year-old child.
19-year-old Rhys Langford was a teenager with a heart of gold who started a fundraiser for 6-year-old Jacob Jones after finding out the boy required expensive treatment for neuroblastoma to save his life.
Not only did Rhys, who was suffering from cancer at the time, start a fundraiser that eventually racked up more than $60,000 in donations but he also gave away all of his life savings – $1,000 – for the young boy’s treatment.
Sadly, the teenager’s condition continued to worsen and his doctors informed him that his illness was terminal back in December.
Now, the boy’s heartbroken family confirmed that the young hero had passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
“My warrior, my hero, my son, my baby, has given up his fight. He lay down his sword and died peacefully at home with all his family around him, he closed his eyes for the last time at around 7pm yesterday evening,” mother Catherine announced on Facebook.
“We are heartbroken my life will never be the same again a part of me has died also. He battled a long hard fight.”
Paying a tribute to Rhys was also the family of Jacob whom the teenager had helped out even though the two had never met in person.
“Jacob’s hero Rhys has sadly passed away, our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. Fly high Rhys and we are all so proud and thankful for what you did for our Jacob,” they expressed.
Our thoughts are with Rhys’s family and friends during these challenging times.
