Harry Potter series is, without any doubt, one of the best works in the literature as well as the film industry.
Its mammoth success and universal popularity are credited to the diligent work of J.K. Rowling, who left no stone unturned to create a perfect plot for the magical fantasy.
She even went as far as to carefully plan complicated but interesting backstories of the main characters while also illustrating their post-Hogwarts careers.
However, in the perfectly-planned and richly-detailed plot of the Harry Potter universe, some fans claim to have discovered a massive plot hole.
The murder of James and Lily Potter – Harry’s parents – by evil Voldemort was perhaps the most important incident in the entire series, which saw Harry miraculously surviving and embarking on an adventurous journey as ‘the chosen one.’
The death of Harry’s parents is also one of the most revisited events explored repeatedly in many books through traumatic flashbacks and, more recently, in the new play, time travel.
Therefore the timeline between baby Harry’s first encounter with Voldemort and his appearance on the Dursleys’ doorstep should have been much clearer… but it’s not!
James and Lily were killed on Halloween but Harry, who was transported by Hagrid, reached the Privet Drive on the midnight of November 1, leaving an unexplained gap of 24 hours.
So the question is, what the giant and the baby was doing for such a long time?
Hagrid used his magical flying motorbike to transport Harry from his family home in Godric’s Hollow to Privet Drive in Surrey. We know that Hagrid acted in the quickest way possible to scoop up the infant from the crime scene, ‘before the Muggles started swarmin’ around.’
We also know that the giant didn’t face any traffic issues as he himself commented he’d no problem reaching Surrey from the West Country (Godric’s Hollow). And with his flying motorbike, he shouldn’t have taken a day’s time to complete such a short trip.
So, the fans are now speculating whether the duo was up to something in those 24 hours or is it just a plot hole that J.K. missed to pay attention to.
Well, no one knows except for J.K. herself. Let’s hope she soon responds to the queries of her fans just like she has always done in past!
