A Canadian dad who also happened to be a hockey coach was curious what his four-year-old son said to himself as he fumbled his way through hockey practice so he shoved a microphone in his son’s pocket and recorded some hilarious moments that has now gone viral.

Jeremy Rupke has been trying to instill his love of hockey in his son Mason but having only started in October, the boy is still learning how to skate and is still a bit awkward on the ice.

So just before a recent practice session, Jeremy hooked up his son with a microphone and recorded some truly adorable ramblings in the process.

“I wondered what he’s thinking out there, so I mic’d him up,” Jeremy explained in the YouTube video that has managed to rack up at least 3.3 million views.

Jeremy can be seen inserting the mic in Mason’s pocket at the beginning of the clip, prompting Mason to ask why his dad is “shoving that in my pocket.”

From the start, Mason has displayed more interest in laying down and kicking his feet casually behind him than in skating and hitting pucks with the other kids.

Mason only starts getting serious after the group vacates the rink so that the Zamboni can smooth the ice. While that is happening, he practices by using his stick to hit a piece of garbage.

Once he’s on the ice again, he skates around a bit while yelling out bits of nonsense to himself.

And even though the video was taken in mid-February, Mason called out “Happy Halloween” one time.

He can also be heard muttering “one, two, one, two” as he skated.

Once he gets his pacing right, he giggles and shouts, “I’m doing it!”

But during the first drill, Mason gets impatient as he waits in line with the other kids so he skates away from them only to fall down.

After the second time he falls, he says to himself, “I’m gonna have a nap.”

However, he soldiers on and keeps giving himself encouragement.

But during one fall, he says to no one in particular, “Let me go, you old fat can.”

Among the other things that he can be heard saying when no one is within hearing include, “I’m gonna throw a party,” “I’m gonna do so fast,” “My legs are tired,” “Criss cross apple sauce,” and “I wanna go BaDonalds.”

At the end of the video, Mason makes it clear that he’s tired and over it. But he cheerfully tells the other kids, “See you later everyone!”

Then he turns towards his father and says, “Dad, I love you so much!”

That alone makes the whole video worth it and other users thought so, too.

One woman wrote: “The entire six minutes you posted was just precious. When he said ‘I love you dad’ and the end I think my heart melted. Thanks for making twitter better!”

“That cracked me up when he said paint cans,” one commented.

Another wrote: “This was awesome. Cute as heck. Pure joy on ice.”

And another said the video provided “wholesome” entertainment, writing: “This video is so pure and wholesome.”
